If you only knew how far we’ve come And if you only knew how far we’ve yet to go We might not be here I remember when another man Stood in the place where I stand today On this hallowed ground Though time and place may separate us If we knew the meaning of another’s suffering We might not see the difference between you and me It rained on inauguration day And I saw the face of King disgraced In the reflecting pool Millions marched and justice bled We will resist without relent Our voices will rise and remain Though some will try to separate us If we knew the meaning of another’s suffering We might not see the difference between you and me We all long to be free Forever we’ll repent our past No claims of innocence can hide the cracks In the Liberty Bell But who was it that reminded me? “There’s a crack in everything That’s how the light gets in” Though some may try to divide us If we knew the meaning of another’s suffering We might not see the difference between you and me But if you only knew how far we’ve come And if you only knew how far we’ve yet to go We might not be here

about

About the songs:

I wrote "How Far We've Come" in the wake of the 2016 election as a letter and tribute to Martin Luther King. We need his wisdom and spirit now as much as ever. How far we've yet to go. (Formerly released on my 2019 full length album Let in the Light.)

"While We're Here" is a deliciously imperfect B-side from the Let in the Light sessions, also written in the shadow of 2016.

'Lion's Jaws (demo)" is a more recent song...about the vulnerable uncertainty of finding love.
